“This is GENIUS!” Suzi Digby OBE

Ever irreverent solo-voice ensemble I Fagiolini celebrates the Platinum Jubilee with the free release of The Stag Hunt, a modern satire about a royal family killing for sport. This acclaimed short film by John La Bouchardière, which has been widely praised for its invention and humour, is based on Janequin’s madcap polyphonic pile-up La Chasse (1537), with its virtuoso soundscape of hunting horns and galloping horses. After raising funds for wildlife charity Born Free and a successful run of international film festivals, including awards from as far and wide as Clermont Ferrand and LA, this stunningly sung, quirky and hugely entertaining nine-minute film is now available free of charge.

REPSONSES

“This is GENIUS. The best music video of the year” Suzie Digby OBE

“…you MUST go and watch it: a hilarious, genius, sinister & virtuosic” Anna Lapwood

“Dark, witty and just-grotesque-enough” Alexandra Coughlan

“Superb… dazzling, distressing” Simon Callow

“The story is cleverly told, thanks to sophisticated filmic techniques, excellent subtitles, clear diction and true intonation, and the creative framework which sets the scene… This refreshing reimagining of a work from nearly 500 years ago… makes for an enjoyable and thought-provoking experience.” Australian Voice

“Harmony, hilarity – and a touch of horror – are seamlessly combined. One of the first times I’ve written about a classical piece with an acute awareness of avoiding ‘spoilers’. A wry, satirical and hugely satisfying short film which happily comes with one of the more sublime soundtracks of the last 500-odd years.” Art Muse London

“A gripping miniature drama… Three cheers to I Fagiolini for bringing this irreverent,

multi-faceted and complex repertoire to a wider audience.” Interlude
